Welcome to my new site! It's been a long time coming...the old one was gathering dust. Not much to report for now; I've been settling into a weekly balance of teaching and performing all around NYC. Some exciting things are on the horizon, though, including:
- The release of Who Knows? This is a three-disc album of piano duets I recorded with long-time mentor and friend Paul Hofmann. It's scheduled for release in the summer of 2015 and features a plethora of compositions by notable pianist-composers in the jazz pantheon, as well as a few originals and improvisations of our own. There will be a release performance in Kilbourn Hall at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.
- The release of Rodeo by a new project I've been involved in, Cowboys & Frenchmen. Most of the other guys in this quintet were classmates of mine back at Eastman, so when we all ended up in NYC, this group was formed. I know everybody says that new releases are unique and whatnot, which is totally true, but THIS stuff is different from anything you'll have heard before, featuring compositions and arrangements by co-leaders Owen Broder and Ethan Helm.
- I'll be heading to Melbourne, Australia in June to participate for the second time in the New York Jazz Symposium camp at Trinity College (part of the University of Melbourne). I'll be joined by legendary drummer and NYJS founder Carl Allen, guitarist Rodney Jones, saxophonist Jordan Pettay, trumpeter Matthew Jodrell, vocalist Carla Cook, and a bassist TBD to teach middle and high school-aged kids from all over Australia. I'll be running ensembles, listening sessions, piano master classes, and more. It was a real blast the last time, and I'm looking forward to it again!
Stay tuned for more updates as I get 'em.
