For the first time, the Institute for Creative Music is thrilled to offer a summer jazz camp in New York City! Held at the Bloomingdale School of Music, Nick Finzer and I will be offering classes on improvisation, composition, listening, and recording techniques alongside ensemble rehearsals, all of which will culminate in a final performance! It's so new I don't have many details yet...so be sure to check back soon for information on how to register!
The Institute for Creative Music is back for our second year at the Harley School! We had a great first year to test out our summer jazz camp, and this year's going to be bigger and better! If you know any students entering grades 7-12 in the Rochester area, please encourage them to check us out!
We'll be offering classes on improvisation, composition, listening, and recording techniques along with ensemble rehearsals, cumulating in a final performance! (Fellow teaching artists include trombonist Nick Finzer, drummer Chris Teal and bassist Matthew Golombisky.)
I'm exciting to be co-directing the Monroe All-County Junior High Jazz Ensemble with with fellow Institute for Creative Music teaching artist Chris Teal. We'll be expanding their outlook on jazz the best way we know how, drawing on years of experience around the country working with similarly-aged students...we'll be exploring Radiohead and collective improvisation (in addition to some more traditional jazz fare). The Senior High Jazz Ensemble will be led by the great Nathan Parker Smith!
The second installment of the Nick Finzer/Chris Ziemba Duo is set to launch! This time we'll be visiting all different universities, presenting concepts on duo playing and working with small and large ensembles. Check back later for a specific list of dates/time for clinics and performances (performances will be listed here), but we'll be visiting the following institutions:
- University of Southern Mississippi
- Arkansas Tech University
- University of Arkansas
